The first day of my internship at the health and sciences library was far better than I had expected. The first thing in the morning was meeting Ms. Moser. She talked about how the internship that Binh and I are doing right now was created in Yale’s University and they will get to know about everything we do. I thought that was very interesting and I am glad to be here today. The second activity of the day was meeting the staff of the library and having breakfast. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Every staff member talked about their education and their work background. They talked about library degrees. I didn’t know you had to have a library degree to become a librarian but now I do. Afterwards, we took a tour of the library.
Throughout the tour, Ms. Moser explained more about the study rooms, medical history books, journals, and the anatomical structure in the main lobby which was very interesting. We went to the second and third floor. There were number of interesting things that amazed me such as when Ms. Moser said that in the rare books section gas is sprayed instead of water when there’s a fire because they books there are too expensive and should be kept safe. Second interesting thing was the skull in the show case on first floor. I came to know that the skull was organic. Also, after taking a tour of the front desk, I learned that students could check out the anatomical structures to study for their exam. They can also check out the class textbooks to study for their class but for a limited amount of time.
Overall, I liked the first day of my internship. I gained a lot of information about the library. I am sure I will learn a lot more about library and will gain skills that will help me in the future. I hope to get the best out of this internship.
