Librarians play a vital role in educating citizens of a community. They are the people that provide tools for everyone to learn more about different subjects. Librarians work at the library and help everyone find the books they want to read. Some librarians read books to children and tell them stories. Librarians read lots and lots of books and they have broad knowledge in every field. They like to communicate with people and help customer service.
Technology has increased a lot over time. Internet is one the most useful technological inventions that librarians could use to help readers. It would be really cool if there were online librarians and books were posted online. Librarians could help readers find the books they need online. Librarians could also work in shopping centers and hospitals and provide people with books they need.
As mentioned before technology is rapidly increasing so there might be changes in future librarians too because many people access the information they need from internet these days instead of going to the library. Librarians of the future might just be in the library to asses’ old people and young people won’t go to library in future because they know how to use the electronic resources. Even if a young person will go to the library then that will be to get help with using an online resource. Future librarians may start helping people with websites and electronic resources instead of providing them with printed resources such as books, journals, and many more.
Good post, Somayah!
ReplyDeleteThe Internet has definitely changed how libraries provide services to users, and technology continue to challenge our field to keep up, learn new things, and find new ways to use technology to satisfy users’ needs. There ARE online librarians! Ask Colorado (http://www.askcolorado.org/) has librarians available 24/7 to answer questions and assist with information needs for residents of this state. Many public libraries have virtual branches that include ebooks, music , and movies that can be downloaded onto a computer or a mobile device like an eReader or an iPad. The Aurora Public Library has over 8000 titles in their virtual collection. I love your idea of embedded librarians (i.e. librarians in shopping centers or hospitals, etc), and many libraries are heading in that direction as well. You have librarians going on medical rounds with doctors at a hospital, for example. Are you familiar at all with Second Life? There are libraries and librarians providing services there, too! http://secondlife.com/
